SwimGainz Junior Development League Success

On Saturday 3rd June 2023 Evesham Swimming Club took two teams to compete in the SwimGainz Junior Development League Finals at The Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry.

Three rounds of competitions have taken place since January which have resulted in the Blue Evesham Team finishing in 2nd place in the league which qualify them for the A-Final. The Red Evesham Team finished in 9th place after experiencing some tougher galas. This qualified them as top seed for the B-Final.

The B-Final took place at 1pm and the squad was made up of 33 swimmers aged 8 through to 14. Throughout the final the team recorded 10 first place individual finishes and 9 relay first place finishes. We also recorded two speeding tickets which, although score the team zero points, is a great individual achievement to go even faster than expected. Grace James achieved this in the 11 years 50m Free by swimming 37.26. Charlotte Walters also swam a 21.50 in the 9 and under 25m Back to record a Speeding Ticket. We also saw Lewis Strachan, William Rice and Grace James win the 'Hot Heats' where randomly selected swims resulted in the winner of the race being awarded a prize. Throughout the gala the Red Team sat in poll position and did not give up their relentless ability to keep securing high placed finishes.

The final positions in the B-Final were as follows:

  1. EVESHAM RED 219

  2. CHELTENHAM PHOENIX 195

  3. SANDWELL AQUATICS RED 173

  4. LEDBURY & MALVERN 141

  5. SANDWELL AQUATICS BLACK 136

The A-Final took place at 4.30pm and the squad was made up of 36 swimmers aged 8 through to 14. Through the final the team recorded 1 first place finish due to the fierce competition. Abby Voss won the 9 and under 25m Butterfly in a time of 22.29. The team also recorded 3 relay first place finishes and we recorded 3 speeding tickets. Leo Begley & Jess Fawcett recorded a speeding ticket in the 12 year old 50m Backstroke for the boys and girls event in a time of 38.69 and 39.20 respectively. The 12 and under girls relay team also recorded an impressive relay display but just came in a little too fast, recording the only relay speeding ticket for the team. The team was made up of Alice Spencer, Maizy Bowen, Katy Smith and Bella Harrison. Going into the relays the team sat in a very good 2nd place overall but a couple of mistakes and the mentioned speeding ticket lead to the team slipping one place. The team were still triumphant by securing the Bronze position at the end of the A-Finals.

The final positions in the A-Final were as follows:

  1. REDDITCH 355

  2. WORCESTER 282

  3. EVEHAM BLUE 280

  4. HALESOWEN 272

  5. PERSHORE 238

  6. CHELTENHAM SWPC 237
