Evesham Schools Gala Makes a Splash!

Evesham Swimming Club were thrilled to welcome around 300 excited young swimmers to this year’s First Schools Gala! Held at Evesham Leisure Centre across two mornings (9th and 10th April), the event saw 16 local schools take part, split into four divisions.  

The gala brought together pupils, teachers, and families in a celebration of swimming, teamwork and school spirit. As always, it wasn’t just about the races – after the swimming, everyone gathered in the Sports Hall for the presentation ceremony which gave us all a chance to cheer for the fabulous swimmers, share in the excitement, and hand out well-deserved awards.

We’d like to give a huge shoutout to the schools, staff and parents for their fantastic support – and also to the 20 brilliant volunteers and 5 Evesham SC coaches who helped make the event run smoothly. A special thank you goes to Jacqui and Kieran Vale for their dedication over the years, especially with their expertise with the scoring!

A Record-Breaking SwimA huge congratulations to Karina Siupa from Bengeworth CE Academy (who is also an Evesham Swimming Club member) who broke the gala record in the Year 5 Girls 25m Backstroke with a time of 17.53 seconds! The previous record (17.87 seconds) had stood since 1983, set by none other than Joanne Deakins, a double Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medallist, who is now Head Coach at City of Coventry. What an incredible achievement!

Golden Ticket Invites

We’re also excited to announce that 28 swimmers received Golden Tickets – exclusive invites to attend Evesham Swimming Club trials. We can’t wait to see some of these talented youngsters at the pool again soon.
