Increasing our Medal Haul in 2023

Great Progression for ESC at the Worcestershire County Swimming Championships 2023

This year Evesham Swimming Club saw 44 members qualify for the 2023 County Championships that were held in Wolverhampton and Worcester over the space of three weekends in January and early February. 38 swimmers entered the 2023 County Championships, representing ESC in a total of 189 events.

75% of the swims were Personal Best times achieved which shows the amazing progress for all of our swimmers involved.

This year the club recorded a record number of swimmers representing the club in Finals this year. 60 appearances increase last year’s achievement by adding a further 17 qualifying swims in finals compared to 2022. This was achieved impressively by 18 different swimmers, just under half of the squad in attendance.

A further 35 Medals were won by 12 different swimmers, beating the 2022 total by adding a further 15 medals than the previous year. Medallists included Matt James (16 years) won two Bronze in the 1500 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke, Jasper Siupa (10/11) won Silver in the 50 Backstroke, George Milner (12 years) won Silver in the 50 Butterfly, Ed Rice (13 years) won Silver in the 200 Butterfly, Sophia James (13 years) won Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke, Poppy Walker (10/11) won Bronze in the 200 Freestyle, Molly Houghton (12 years) won Bronze in the 50 Backstroke and Daisy Gregg (16 years) won Bronze in the 50 Breaststroke.

A special mention must go to Milton Xavier Yau and Daniel Krzywicki who both return from the County Championships as the County Champion in a number of events for their age group. Milton (10/11) took nine first placed finishes in the 100 and 200 Butterfly, 100 and 200 Individual Medley, 100, 200 and 400 Freestyle, 100 and 200 Breaststroke. Milton also finished in Silver position in the 50 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle. Daniel retained his 200 Backstroke Gold by winning this event again this year and added the 100 Backstroke event to his achievements. Daniel also took silver in the 50 Backstroke.

Likewise, Mollie Broom took home six silver medals in the 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke and 100, 200 and 400 Freestyle. Mollie also won two Bronze medals in the 100 and 200 Individual Medley. Annabelle Blackbird also took home Silver in the 100 Backstroke and three Bronze medals for the 50 and 200 Backstroke and 400 Individual Medley.

Following the County Championships, we now currently have 10 Regional Qualifiers at the club (more than 2022 already) – Ed Rice (10 events), Milton Xavier Yau (6), Daniel Krzywicki (3), Sophia James (3), Abby Tustin (1), Daisy Gregg (1), Molly Houghton (4) and Annabelle Blackbird (8), George Milner (1), Jasper Siupa (1).

At ESC, we celebrate the success of our swimmers in the pool but also their achievements and attitude out of the pool. Every member who represented the club gained valuable skills and knowledge from competing over a range of events this year and we recognise the development they are all making as a team in this incredibly tough individual sport. Every swimmer, parent, coach, poolside helper and volunteer all support the success together and we achieve it together. Well done to everyone, I am so proud of what we are continuing to achieve year on year.
